Job Summary: Valmont's internship program mission is to provide a hands-on learning experience through project work, leadership development, job shadowing and interaction with senior leadership. The Valley Science and Engineering consulting group in California is seeking a student who is interested in pursuing a career in soils science, agronomy, geology, or other agriculture/environmental related field. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience and interact with professional environmental consulting working within the private sector. Specific duties shall include: Learn the basics and assist with the following: Participate in soil, water, and groundwater sampling Install and maintain soil, moisture, and water sampling equipment Collect and analyze lab data Assist with preparing cropping, irrigation, and nutrient management plans and monitoring reports Communicate results of activities to supervisor Basic Qualifications (Required): Declared major Soil Science, Agronomy, Geology, or other agriculture/environmental-related field or similar Strong oral and written communication skills Ability to work independently within scope of duties and competence Able to solve problems independently and collaboratively A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Ability to work from a remote office location Valid U.S. driver's license and ability to work outdoors Additional Qualifications (Required): Attention to detail balanced with broader perspective of project goals Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new skills Team-oriented focus to deliver greater results than any individual member Passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results Preferred Qualifications (Desired): Upper level student - undergraduate with 3 years coursework completed or graduate student Previous relevant work experience Previous or in-progress research experience in crop, soils, agronomy, groundwater, or environmental studies Benefits: Professional work experience that would count towards licensure Great opportunity to gain career related experience from an industry leader Paid Internship - Valmont values you Potential development into a regular full-time position A thriving culture in a growing business Working Environment and Physical Efforts: This position will require approximately 65% fieldwork and 35% office work. This is a part-time position working 15 to 30 hours per week. There are specific sampling duties that must be conducted weekly, monthly, and quarterly. However, there is some flexibility with weekly schedules that could accommodate a schedule for a student attending classes. Valley will provide personal protective equipment, and other field equipment necessary to conduct sampling work. Office work may be conducted in the office in Visalia, CA or at a remote location as the need arises. Work will be conducted according to a site-specific Health and Safety Plan. The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, alternate standing and sitting for 5 to 10 hours per day with occasional breaks, walk on uneven ground and work in nearly all weather conditions (hot sun, rain, etc.).
