Job Duties


Clinical Specialists provide a range ofservices to a multidisciplinary team in an intensiveoutpatient programs serving an adult population with OCD. Duties may include:psychosocial assessment; care coordination; consultation to team; individual,family, or group psychotherapeutic treatment; liaison with community agencies;teaching trainees of various disciplines; treatment plan documentation anddisposition planning and advocacy. Requires excellent skills in interpersonal communication anddocumentation, as well as clinical knowledge of individual, family, social,& cultural issues in mental illness. The Clinical Specialist is expected to be able to perform the following repertoire of professionalactivities, in accordance with policies and procedures. 

Job Qualifications :

Requirements: LCSW or LMFT or PhD 

Demonstrated expertise in treatment of OCD with behavior techniques.

Experience in psychiatric settings

Ability to perform a basic mental status exam, with consultation/supervision, and recognize changes in mental status.

Knowledge of CAMFT , CSW and/or APA ethics and scope of practice.
Knowledge of the goals & interventions of intensive outpatient, day treatment, partial hospitalization, and inpatient programs.
Knowledge of relevant psychiatric diagnoses, including presenting symptoms and typical treatment approaches.
Skill in rapidly establishing rapport & maintaining effective therapeutic relationships with patients & families.

Basic knowledge of psychiatric & psychosocial factors related to all life stages; expertise in at least one stage.
Ability to complete psychosocial assessments effectively & efficiently.
Knowledge of psychosocial factors in the etiology & treatment of mental illness.
Knowledge of LPS laws.
Ability to communicate clearly & therapeutically with patients & families regarding the diagnosis, progress in program, treatment plans, and recommendations.
Ability to establish & maintain effective & mutually respectful relationships with professionals and support staff.
Ability to arrange effective clinical coverage during planned absences.
Ability to assess & respond appropriately in a timely fashion to the safety needs of patients, family and staff.
Skill at planning and conducting therapeutic groups.
Knowledge of child & adult abuse & neglect reporting laws & procedures.
Knowledge of scope of practice of relevant other disciplines, including psychiatry, psychology, occupational therapy, nursing, etc.
Ability to develop and expand knowledge & skills in specialization as well as other relevant service populations and modalities.
Skill at representing hospital programs to referring professionals & agencies.
Knowledge of pertinent current community resources, including income maintenance, mental health treatment, special education, residential & vocational supports, and self-support & advocacy organizations and ability to mobilize these resources in the patient/family’s interest.
Ability to maintain positive, professional relationships with a variety of community agencies and demonstrate assertiveness, persistence, & diplomacy when activating resources in support of the patient.
Ability to recognize complex clinical situations and seek & apply consultation or supervision when needed.
Skill at facilitating trainee’s therapeutic relationship with patients & families.
Ability to arrange for coverage of patients during planned absences such as vacations.
Skill at assessing & problem-solving team and program issues that impact patients & families.
Ability to work in a fast-paced setting and readily adjust priorities according to changes in caseload, staffing, and other program needs.
Skill at writing documentation that is timely, meaningful, complete, legible, grammatically correct, concise, & consistent with legal and administrative standards. This includes psychosocial assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, aftercare plans, memos, letters/faxes, reports.
Ability to use a computer for electronic mail & word processing; Internet access to University & Hospital policies & procedures, & community resources for patients.
Ability & willingness to share knowledge & skills with social work colleagues through individual consultation and didactic presentations.
