The Initial Review Date (IRD) for this position is: 05-17-2021 Dept Marketing Statement Institutional Research, Assessment, and Policy Studies (IRAPS) reports directly to the Campus Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor (CPEVC), providing support to senior leadership and other decision makers across campus in the areas of academic and enrollment planning, policy analysis, and the evaluation of student outcomes and equity. IRAPS supports strategic planning and data-driven decision making and assessment by providing timely, accurate, consistent and reliable information. IRAPS's major responsibilities are for reporting, analysis, and presentation of institutional data, administration and analysis of campus surveys, and support for learning outcomes assessment. Includes planning and analytical studies, assessment, and reporting on data related to students, academic and non-academic employees, financial, and facilities. May be involved with compliance with informational requests from external agencies. Under the general direction of the Assistant Director for Assessment and Survey Research, the Assessment Analyst provides a full range of support to faculty conducting assessment of learning outcomes in academic degree programs, including undergraduate and graduate programs. The Assessment Analyst works with faculty committees and individual faculty on planning and design of program-specific assessment studies, using multiple lines of evidence and involving equity analyses. The responsibilities include developing assessment tools and practices that lead to improvement of teaching and learning across different student populations, conducting quantitative and qualitative data analyses, report writing, and presentation of best practices and findings to various audiences. This position supports campus-wide implementation of learning outcomes assessment studies in academic degree programs and development of culture of assessment more broadly. No. of Positions: 1 Benefits Level Eligibility: Full Schedule Information: Full-time 100% weekly 40 hours weekly Mon-Fri Day Shift Employee Classification: Career Appointment Job Classification Code: 006948 (INSTITUTIONAL RSCH ANL 3) Job End Date: None Work Location: UC Santa Cruz Main Campus Union Representation: None Job Duties 50% - Development of Program-Specific Assessment Tools and Practices * Works with faculty committees and individual faculty on program-specific assessment studies in undergraduate and graduate programs. * Helps faculty review curriculum and develop assessment questions, tools, and practices that lead to improvement of teaching and learning across various student populations. * Develops tools and measurements including rubrics and survey questions, sampling approach, and plan for equity-minded data analysis. * Assists faculty with collecting relevant data via Canvas LMS and a survey system. * Provides analytical support to faculty and staff with interpretation of assessment results in written and graphical forms. 30% - Analysis and Reporting * Conducts in-depth analyses of assessment data integrated with institutional research data, including analyses of equity in learning outcomes. * Conducts descriptive and inferential statistical analysis, including multivariate methods. * Interprets findings in the institutional context and writes analytical summaries and comprehensive reports for program-specific assessment, academic program review, strategic planning, and accreditation. 15% - Dissemination of Best Practices in Assessment * Prepares and delivers presentations or workshops on various assessment-related topics to faculty and graduate students with various disciplinary backgrounds. * Regularly updates the IRAPS website with recent resources. 5% - Professional Development and Service * Pursues opportunities to enhance expertise in assessment, data analysis, data presentation, and higher education to keep knowledge/skills current. * Interacts with peers across the UC system, and serves on campus committees and workgroups as appropriate. Required Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences and/or equivalent experience/training in assessment, Institutional Research, or social science research. * Demonstrated experience in learning outcomes assessment in Higher Education settings. * Demonstrated experience conducting applied social science or educational research, including research methodology, program evaluation, and descriptive and inferential statistical analyses. * Demonstrated experience using statistical software such as SPSS, Stata, or SAS, including using command language or syntax to manage and transform data, report statistics, conduct multivariate analysis, and create tables. * Demonstrated excellent analytical skills needed to analyze quantitative and qualitative data, to interpret findings and discern implications, and to draw conclusions. * Demonstrated experience accessing information stored in large data systems and using computer applications, including statistical, spreadsheet, and presentation software. * Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the abilities to write clear and concise reports on complex issues, and to make public presentations to large groups. * Excellent interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility to work effectively with senior administration, faculty, staff, students, and the general public. * Strong organizational skills with the ability to complete a variety of assignments with attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy, and to maintain accurate and detailed records. * Demonstrated abilities to work independently with minimal guidance and as part of a team toward common goals, and to coordinate efforts and collaborate with a variety of individuals. * Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and manage multiple activities to meet deadlines. Preferred Qualifications * PhD in Social Sciences or a related field. * Teaching experience. * Familiarity with issues in higher education, especially equity and student experience. * Familiarity with UC policies, practices, and procedures.
