Staff Nurse Float Pool

The primary role of the Staff Float Nurse is to coordinate the delivery of care for the patient population they serve from admission through discharge. Included in this delivery of care are all aspects of the physical, psychosocial, safety and educational needs of the patient and their family/support system. This function is performed in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team including but not limited to nursing peers, attending physicians and ancillary support services.
The Staff Float RN uses the nursing process, medical therapeutics, technology and personal interventions to accomplish this.
Must meet all Education, Certification and Licensure as a Staff Nurse II (21337126020).
Based on Qualifications - Floats to TELE, MED SURG and ICU.
Staff Floating to Telemetry and Med Surg:
Two years of basic Medical / Surgical acute care nursing experience or at least one year of experience in specialty area.
Experience in Cardiac and Telemetry nursing in an acute care setting and meet all required certification of the position.
Demonstrates understanding of cardiac arrhythmias and the associated treatment plans and medication.
Experience that allows the assessment, treatment and management of conditions that affect the complex cardiovascular system.
Experience providing care to patients across the lifespan, from adolescent to the elderly.
Experience in the following services:
Managing hypertension, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias and other heart conditions.
Evaluating and monitoring heart devices, such as pacemakers and defibrillators.
Assesses results from a wide variety of cardiac tests, including stress tests, stress echocardiograms, exercise stress tests, medicated stress tests, and CT coronary angiograms.
Providing physical exams so as to assess for chronic and acute cardiac diseases.
Interprets laboratory results or cardiac tests.
Administers, understands, and managing cardiac medications and other therapies.
Educates patients on health maintenance and disease prevention.
Must demonstrate basic Medical / Surgical Nursing Skills.
Must demonstrate competencies in the nursing process and pharmacology.
Must demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
Must demonstrate basic knowledge of adult, geriatric.
Oversees the duties of the Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Telemetry Technician on the unit.
Must learn operations of relevant equipment in unit.
Staff Floating to ICU:
Minimum 2 years Critical Care experience within past 5 years in an acute care setting.
Proficient in a wide variety of high-level nursing skills, experts in evaluating intensive care patients, administering care, recognizing complications and coordinating with other members of the critical care team.
Demonstrate skills in interpersonal communication, leadership, strategic planning, critical thinking and decision-making.
Experience with treating wounds, managing multiple Intravenous drips, mechanical ventilation and providing advanced life support.
Requires the ability to carefully assess and monitor patient's progress in order to watch for sudden or subtle changes in a patient's medical condition that might require emergency intervention.
Experience working with patients who have life-threatening issues, they often encounter end-of-life or ethical matters that may involve withholding medical care.
CCRN or Critical Care certification.
Education, Licensures and Certifications:
* Associate's Degree required
* Bachelor's or Master's Degree preferred
* Valid California RN License required
* BLS required
* ACLS required
* Certification in Specialty preferred
* EPIC documentation preferred
Two years of hospital clinical experience in an acute healthcare organization within the past three years for RNs.
Skills and Knowledge:
Hospital and nursing-specific orientation which may include a competency assessment for each unit in level - Shifts available in 4, 8 and 12-hour blocks. [Float pool employees, floating to an area with an alternative work schedule are subject to the schedule of that department.]
Compensation/Salary RN Resource team members will receive a $3.00 differential as compensation for their clinical flexibility.
