ResponsibilitiesSummaryThe Chaplain is responsible for providing crisis chaplaincy coverage to the Emergency Department, as well as other areas where a chaplain is needed/requested during an assigned shift, and also providing chaplaincy coverage to other clinical areas. In addition to regular chaplaincy responsibilities (spiritual care visits, emergency visits, etc), the chaplain will have the opportunity to participate in program development for the Spiritual Care department. The chaplain will also be a key player in interviewing, orienting, scheduling and supervising volunteers.The Spiritual Care Department at SGH is responsible for the spiritual care needs of patients, guests, and staff throughout Sharp Grossmont Hospital campus.Sharp Grossmont Hospital is the largest not-for-profit, full-service acute care hospital in the region with 542 beds. The hospital has outstanding programs in heart care, orthopedics, rehabilitation, robotic surgery, mental health, stroke care and women's health. This designation is the 'gold standard' for patient care and nursing excellence and is the highest honor awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.LocationThis position is located in La Mesa, San Diego CountyHours8-hour variable shifts; including weekends as neededOn call hours are 8:30 pm - 8:00 am Monday through Friday and 4:30 pm - 8:00 am Saturday and SundayThis is a Per Diem positionRequired Skills and Qualifications* Master of Divinity Degree or equivalent* Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)* Excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated competence in interpersonal relationships* Ability to understand and prepare statistical data and reports* Expertise in program planning, development, and management* Basic computer skills; including experience with MS Excel and MS Publisher* Ability to supervise and mentor volunteers* Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary settingPreferred Skills and Qualifications* Eligibility to meet certification standards of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors and/or the Association of Professional Chaplains for Pastoral Care Specialist strongly preferred* Two years of Parish experience or experience in a setting managing volunteer programs* Two years chaplaincy experience in an institutional setting, preferably a health care setting* Endorsement for Chaplaincy from faith group strongly preferred* Ordination and/or faith group endorsement strongly preferredSharp HealthCare is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
