We are seeking a Manager Labor and Delivery and Mother Baby Units - Manager Women's Health who will have knowledge of best practice for quality delivery of care and patient safety in Labor and Delivery and Mother Baby units. Will possess knowledgeable resource to staff, the ability to lead and communicate appropriately with physicians, other department managers, and staff are essential. Under general direction, and in accordance with the State of California Nurse Practice Act, and the goals, objectives and strategic plan of the organization, to provide leadership, plan, organize, and supervise personnel; to manage, report on, and provide resources for Labor and Delivery and Mother Baby units; and to perform related work as required. This class reports to an Administrative Director Women's Health Services. This class is characterized by having total management and budgetary responsibility and control of program on a 24 hour basis and/or all hours the units. In this position you will: * Provide overall leadership, coaches and trains, manages, organizes, directs, and reviews the total scope of patient care services provided in Labor & Delivery, Post Par tum and Newborn Nursery * Prepare, review, and assist in the development of the capital equipment budget plan, provides input into preparation of personnel and operating budgets and is accountable for budget variances for Labor & Delivery, Post Partum and Newborn Nursery * Provide leadership in the decisions, regarding scheduling, assignments, management, and staffing * Provide leadership in the development, revision, and implementation of policies, procedures, standards of care and practice, and goals and objectives for Labor & Delivery, Post-Partum and Newborn Nursery * Establish and communicate expectations/performance standards to personnel and evaluates the performance of personnel to assure compliance with regulatory standards, policies, procedures, and standards of care and practice including the goals and objectives of the organization * Provide management oversight and promotes consistency to ensure personnel's compliance with the Providence Saint John's philosophy, policies and procedures, and regulatory/licensure/accreditation standards * Interview applicants and recommends hiring decisions to administrative designee; completes progressive disciplinary actions under the direction of administrative designee * Provide management oversight and promotes consistency to ensure personnel's compliance with the Providence Saint John's philosophy, policies and procedures, and regulatory/licensure/accreditation standards * Identify learning needs and collaborates with CNS about the orientation and training of personnel * Collaborate with physicians and other department managers to ensure quality patient care and efficient and effective unit or program operations * Identify opportunities for improving patient care and operations in Labor & Delivery, Post Partum and Newborn Nursery; establishes objectives to be achieved, and plans, implements, and evaluates the action plan for achieving improvements; initiates and/or conducts audits to identify areas requiring improvement * Communicate pertinent information, special instructions and standards with personnel and considers ideas/suggestions from the staff * Interview applicants and recommends hiring decisions to administrative designee; completes progressive disciplinary actions under the direction of administrative designee * Foster employee development through performance appraisals, constructive feedback, and recognition of exceptional abilities and education; and administers progressive disciplinary action when needed Required qualifications for this position include: * Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, from an accredited college or university * 4 years Supervisory experience as a registered nurse in an acute care hospital * Experience in Labor & Delivery, Post Partum and Newborn Nursery * Principles of leadership and management * Nursing processes and its application in patient care * Licensure, accreditation and regulatory requirements * Personnel scheduling * Performance evaluations * Group dynamics * Progressive disciplinary action * Team building and conflict management * Problem-solving and management teachniques * Implement the principles of leadership and management in the nursing process * Ensure compliance with Providence Saint John's goals, objectives, strategic plan, policies and procedures * Prepare and maintain reports and clinical records * Communicate clearly via oral and written methods * Monitor critical practice indicators, identify opportunities for improvement, and guide the implementation of the action plan * Analyze and maintain budget accountability * Establish, communicate, and monitor performance standards and expectations * Manage time effectively * Make sound decisions using problem-solving skills; and use productive group dynamics to achieve teamwork About the hospital you will serve: Providence Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, California, is part of Providence Health & Services, an integrated, not-for-profit network of hospitals, care centers, medical clinics, home health services, affiliated services and educational facilities in the western United States.
