Position Summary

:

The Instructional Technologist provides primary support to faculty members in the use of technology in teaching, learning, and research. The Instructional Technologist evaluates and prepares recommendations on curricula, instructional methods, and materials. The incumbent prepares one-on-one consultations, workshops, training sessions, manuals, and guidelines on the improvement of teaching/learning environments through the use of E-learning technologies. The Instructional Technologist will assist in the assessment of teaching/learning challenges and provide tools, resources, and training to the faculty that will help address these challenges. Such solutions could include: introduction of new teaching techniques, an exploration of best teaching practices, implementation of technology enhanced learning technologies, offering of general technology or software training, and the application of adult learning theory.

Position Specific Responsibilities:
  • This position is for an Instructional Technologist in the College of Business.
  • Provide general instructional technology support to the faculty and participate in college-level academic technology, web, and other pertinent committees.
  • Collaborate with faculty to improve student learning using instructional design principles.
  • Conversant and able to apply adult learning theory including but not limited to, constructivism, cognitive learning theory, and distributed learning theory.
  • Familiar with the assessment and evaluation of technology enhance teaching environments.
  • Experience with the design and development of curricula that utilize a variety of technology enhanced learning modalities.
  • Contribute to the oversight of hardware and software purchases for the college.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and competency with software applications in use on College lab and classroom computers.
  • Support the formulation and definition of college level teaching and learning objectives.
  • Provide support for online and hybrid courses and programs.
  • Provide training and support to faculty in technology enhanced media and technologies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
  • Experience/Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3+ years experience with university-level learning environments and/or training, curriculum /instructional design.
  • Strong skills in building and maintaining stable working relationships with faculty and staff. Exemplary communication skills.
  • Strong skills in facilitation, training, teaching, negotiation, and consulting within an academic environment.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with ITS staff and develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to multi-task and work as an effective member of a team.
  • Highly developed organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated computer competency especially with Learning/Course Management software (D2L Brightspace).
  • General knowledge of hardware, network, computer lab configuration, and other basic information technology services.
  • Experience in College of Business and working with Business faculty a plus.
  • Extensive online and hybrid course work also a plus.

    Required Education:
  • Typically a Masters Degree in Curriculum and/or Instructional Design, Educational Technology or related field or equivalent experience. The incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
