Every Revero is designed at our Headquarters in Irvine and created with great individual care and world-class craftsmanship at the Karma Innovation and Customization Center in Moreno Valley, CA.The Lead DRE - Body Exterior is responsible for and will lead all activities related to design, development and release of automotive exterior systems and components including: front and rear bumper fascia systems, energy absorbing systems, front grille, rear spoiler, rocker cover, cowl screen, engine cover, badges & emblems, grille opening reinforcement(GOR), battery & engine beauty covers, wheel liners and underbody aero panels. Lead DRE will work mostly independently with minimum supervision. Is able to work proactively on own initiative.Responsibilities* Design, develop, and engineer the applicable commodity* Maintain a project timing plan/schedule for parts aligned with overall program timing* Develop investment targets for: Engineering, Design & Development (ED&D), tooling, and piece cost* Understand, create, and update engineering documentation such as TES's (Tech. Spec's), DFMEA's (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) and DVP's (Design Verification Plan)* Manage parts from initial design to prototype phase and production* Drive, assist, and support all functional groups within the company including: various engineering groups, design studio and surfacing, craftsmanship, assembly plant, purchasing, marketing, certification, aftermarket, logistics, etc.* Drive design and work effectively within a multi-disciplinary design environment such that designs consider the impact across all relevant disciplines* Communicate issues to studio and suppliers and create tradeoff proposals for studio and engineering* Coordinate and develop criteria sections* Verify styling theme feasibility (manufacturing, service, safety, regulatory, service, etc.)* Create and manage EBOM (Engineering Bill of Materials), including material selection and finish* Track, assist, and manage supplier(s) activities and their progress to achieve goals* Initiate, track, manage, and close engineering change requests (ECR's) within Karma Automotive's change management system* Coordinate component and vehicle level testing and validation activities and provide reports* Conduct vehicle benchmark studies/technical research of competitive products, present findings, and suggest recommendations* Maintain an open issues list. Track, manage, and ensure timely resolution of open issues* Participate in design review meetings* Develop performance and technical specifications for automotive exterior systems* Develop, track, and update vehicle level specifications for exterior components* Support launch activities and resolution of build issues at the assembly plant* Provide weekly updates of progress, goals, and road blocks* Able to coordinate and complete mock-up of parts for evaluation* Consult with colleagues and supervisor as required* Report and escalate major issues immediately to supervisor* Other duties, as assignedQualifications* Bachelor of Science in Engineering or similar required* 8 Plus Years of engineering experience* Previous automotive OEM or major Tier 1 experience is a major plus* Previous assembly plant launch experience preferred* Knowledge of plastics, composites, metals, as it relates to automotive exterior systems* Knowledge of Injection Molding, Blow Molding* Knowledge of RIM, compression molding, vacumm forming, stamping, casting is a plus* Good analytical skills* Excellent communication skills and a team player approach is required* Competent user of CATIA V5* Working knowledge of relevant statutory regulations and certification requirements* SmarTeam experience preferred* Experience or knowledge of root cause analysis or Design of Experiments* Good knowledge of Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R)* Good knowledge of Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (DFMEA)* Willingness to travel to supplier, and assembly plant during launch* Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications and preferably MS Project* Ability to work overtime and occasional travel will be required.* Able to work within a cross-functional team to achieve goals* Basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015) and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001:2015), as applicableNo 3rd Parties.
