GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSEThis position is a key leader of Dole Fresh Vegetables Finance and Accounting department. This position supervises Division accountants and ensures all critical department processes are met. These processes include overseeing DFV's periodic accounting and financial reporting, forecast submissions, implementing and maintaining a system of internal controls that will ensure that company assets are adequately safeguarded and that all financial reporting is prepared in compliance with U.S. GAAP as well as overseeing utilization of J.D. Edwards system. This position requires significant interaction with Corporate and Division operating and financial personnel as well as external auditors. This position requires significant demonstrated leadership capability as well as accounting and finance acumen. This position reports to the Division's Controller.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION* Directs and controls daily operations of the Accounting Department to ensure production of complete, accurate and timely transactions, statements and financial reports comply with policies and procedures and in accordance with US GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley Act* Oversees Accounts Payable and the general accounting function, including fixed assets, cash, financial reporting, inter-company accounting, internal controls and balance sheet management.* Manages and participates in the monthly close process and partners with other Finance/Accounting teams such as Sales, Fresh Pack, Berries, and VA Finance to ensure consolidated financials are complete and accurate, and accounting is consistent across entities.* Supervises the timely and accurate preparation and submission of all DFV Corporate deliverables including Balance Sheet and Income Statement variance explanations quarterly and annual reporting templates.* Performs account analysis and is responsible for reviewing monthly/quarterly account reconciliations and other documents to ensure compliance with Dole accounting policies and U.S. GAAP.* Coordinates and oversees the internal control compliance activities for DFV ensuring internal controls documentation, testing and segregation of duties.* Supervises the completion of various Federal and State reporting requirements (including property, sales and use, payroll and other local taxes), insurance reports and other reports required for government regulatory compliance. Also, assists Corporate Tax, Treasury and Risk departments with dealing with tax related issues and meeting reporting requirements.* Manages relationships and coordinates work relating to both internal and external audits.* Responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of DFV's data in JDE as well, as transmissions to and from all other operating systems. Involved in validating/designing suggested changes to ensure accounting requirements continue to be met.* Assists in the preparation of DFV's annual budget and 3-year plan.* Oversee the preparation of the periodic, quarterly and annual income statement and balance sheet projections for DFV.* Ensures that the accounting department is staffed with qualified accounting personnel capable of meeting the objectives and responsibilities, noted above. Provides training and continued development of staff.* Directly supervises employees assigned to accounting functions. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Provides orientation and training for new staff; establishes individual and team performance goals to review, coach and monitor performance against goals; discusses significant operations issues and review staff training and development requirements; establishes goals and measures to track the success of the department.* Participate in special projects as required and performs other duties as assigned.JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skill And Experience Requirements)* 8+ years of experience with a combination of public accounting and large company experience preferred* Strong analytical skills and problem-solving capabilities with experience managing and leading complex issues requiring both interpretation and judgment.* Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP.* Extensive experience in general ledger accounting.* Experience with SOX compliant Internal Controls* Highly motivated and flexible individual capable of leading an organization while managing multiple projects and activities in a fast-paced, time-sensitive, dynamic environment.* Must have the ability to effectively prioritize multiple projects to ensure tight deadlines are met.* Financial database experience in J.D. Edwards preferred.* Ability to understand business requirements and define and implement technical system solutions and automated processes.* Ability to work collaboratively across various Dole and DFV departmental functions* Excellent leadership, planning, supervisory and communication skills are required* Strong leadership abilities in developing staff to ensure timely and quality execution against expectations.* Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to interface professionally with all levels of management* Excellent written and verbal communication skills for conveying information in a clear, concise, accurate and timely manner to all levels of management and staff* Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.* Experience in Agricultural, distribution, and manufacturing operations is very helpful* Strong attention to detail and a desire to assume new responsibilities* English is required, Spanish knowledge can be helpful given our internationalINTERNAL & EXTERNAL RELATIONSInteraction takes place with all areas of the company, from subordinates to Senior Staff and Operational Directors, Vice Presidents and Corporate.
