The Recreation Leader II classification may be assigned to different areas of responsibility and qualifications with separate 'working' job titles. Applicants should specify if they are applying for a Recreation Leader (for Recreation Program) or a Building Attendant position. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR: * Dedicated to providing excellent customer service * Motivated * Positive/Can Do Attitude * Team player * Excellent communicator * Detail & solution oriented * Spanish speaking skills are highly desirable IDEAL CANDIDATE Recreation Leader II: The ideal candidate will be reliable, courteous, energetic and friendly; possess: effective communications skills; the ability to take direction and work independently; plan and lead recreation and sports activities for all ages; demonstrate an ability to provide exemplary customer service and perform other duties as assigned in a professional manner while presenting a positive public image. The following duties are typical of this classification and are intended only to describe the various types of work that may be performed, the level of technical complexity of the assignment(s), and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list of duties. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Recreation Leader II: Under general supervision, plan, organize and lead program participants in various recreation program activities in program areas to include youth after school and day camps, teen center, therapeutic, sports, seniors, and special events; monitor safe use of City facilities and equipment; work on special projects with Recreation Coordinator; transport participants in City vehicles when applicable; administer basic first aid when necessary. Works weekend, evenings, holidays; and split work shifts may be required Qualifications: Must be at least 16 years of age, with a work permit (if applicable). May be required to be at least 18 years of age due to work assignment environment. Experience: Recreation Leader II: One year of experience in recreation and/or youth services is desirable. Certifications: Current Tuberculosis (less than two years) clearance slips prior to employment is desired. American Red Cross First Aid and CPR Certification (must obtain within six months of employment). Special Requirement: Department of Justice background and fingerprint check prior to offer of employment. License: Valid California C Class Driver License; must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record and be insurable to operate City vehicles. Ability to: Recreation Leader II: Develop, organize, and supervise recreational activities adapt a program to specific and immediate circumstances following general guidelines set by a supervisor; including the ability to read and interpret recreational manuals, including game and activity instructions, rules and standards; utilize behavioral management techniques; prepare written forms to include incident reports, registration forms, attendance records, surveys and/or evaluations; operate standard office equipment to include phone and occasional computer use; follow and interpret verbal and written directions in English; communicate effectively in both oral and written form; work independently with minimal direction; take a proactive approach to problem solving; learn the organization, procedures, and operating details of the City department to which assigned; and maintain an effective working relationship with other staff, volunteers and the public. Knowledge of: Recreation Leader II: Leadership skills and techniques; rules of athletic competition such as basketball, baseball, and sprts and other games; techniques of playground planning; basic behavioral modification techniques; basic customer service skills; light custodial tasks; ability to work cooperatively and effectively with youth and adults.
