Position description: Calico is seeking to fill a Research Associate position in our Genomics Core Lab. The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, assisting Calico's scientists with execution of their basic aging research experiments by providing sequencing expertise and service. The well-qualified candidate has a solid grasp of molecular biology and hands on experience with cutting edge Genomics technology. Position requirements: * BS or MS degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or related discipline (PhD not expected) with a minimum of 4 years relevant experience * Prepare of DNA/RNA libraries using automated liquid handling platforms, run the libraries on an Illumina NovaSeq, and perform initial QC of the data * Operate and troubleshoot laboratory robotics (Agilent Bravo, Tecan, Hamilton, Beckman, Echo, etc.) * Collaborate with the Automation Team to migrate new methods onto the liquid handlers * Collaborate with the software engineering team to assist them in configuring a LIMS for our Genomics Lab * Must have hands on experience with various nucleic acid sample quantitation methods (Fragment Analyzer, Bioanalyzer, Qubit, qPCR, etc.) * Possess excellent communication skills with an ability to work as part of a high-performing team and with the broader Calico community * Be flexible and able to respond quickly to shifting priorities; handle multiple projects simultaneously * Must be detail-oriented and organized; must possess the initiative to organize your week efficiently * Mentor other lab members, and train members of the broader Calico community on NGS methods Nice to have: * Working knowledge of library prep and sequencing instrumentation (Illumina, Pacific Biosciences, or other platforms) * Hands-on experience with DNA and RNA extraction methods from cell culture and tissue * Experience with NanoString hybridization methods * Familiarity with single cell sequencing approaches * Knowledge of basic statistics and genomic data analysis tools: some Python or R coding ability is desirable but not required
