Modeling the influence of advanced glycation end-products in aging and neurodegeneration using C.elegans and mice
The Kapahi Laboratory focuses on identifying and characterizing the mechanisms by which nutrients modulate aging and age-related diseases. This is being achieved by using an interdisciplinary approach combining genetic, pharmacological, biochemical and genomic approaches in invertebrate model systems C. elegans, D. melanogaster and mammalian cells. The broader significance of this research is to help uncover the role of nutrition in the etiology of age-related human diseases like diabetes, obesity and neurodegeneration.
The current position involves studying the role of glucose and Advanced Glycation Endproducts (AGEs) in aging and age-related diseases using C. elegans, mice and IPS derived cells. We propose to examine the mechanisms involved in synthesis and detoxification of Advanced Glycation Endproducts (AGEs).
