Job DescriptionAs a leader of allogeneic T cell immunotherapy company, Atara Bio is developing therapies for cancer and autoimmune diseases. The Assay Development team in Process Sciences is responsible for delivery of analytical methods that support Atara Bio's T cell therapy product release and characterization. We are looking for a senior scientist with deep knowledge in immunology and/or cell biology, hands-on experiences in bioassay development, qualification, validation and transfer.In this role, you will lead the bioassay development for one of Atara's T-cell therapy products and be responsible for design, development and implementation of methods that drive product lot release, comparability and characterization. You will also be participating in writing analytical method sections for filings with the regulatory agencies. The candidate must be able to thrive in a cross-functional environment. Direct line management opportunities are also available when needs arise.Reports to: Principal Scientist, Analytical DevelopmentLocation: Thousand Oaks, CAPrimary Responsibilities:* Establishes, characterizes, optimizes and validates assays for characterization and lot release testing of Atara's T-cell therapy products.* Manages design and execution of assay development and method qualification work.* Characterizes cell therapy starting materials, process intermediates and products; recommends specifications and provides supporting rationale.* Draws from the literature and scientific knowledge to refine study objectives and design effective experiments with minimal direction.* Supervises and executes experiments; independently performs detailed analysis of data and interprets results; applies conclusions to thoughtful proposals for follow-on work.* Authors method SOPs and transfers methods to partner functions.* Authors method qualification/validation protocols, performs or supervises execution, performs data analysis and authors reports.* In collaboration with other CMC functions at Atara and at Atara's partners, assures effective transfer and start-up of new methods implemented into QC.* Authors and reviews process documentation and reports; present results in cross-functional forums.Travel: Ability to travel up to 10%.Physical Requirements: Subject to extended periods of sitting and standing, vision to monitor and moderate noise levels. Work is approximately 50% lab based and 50% office based.QualificationsQualifications - Education and Professional Experience:* PhD in immunology, cell biology, or related fields with 2+ years of postgraduate relevant experiences OR Master's degree & 4+ years of directly related experience OR Bachelor's degree & 6+ years of directly related experience* Deep fundamental knowledge of immunology, bioassay development and cross-functional team-work experiences.* Fundamental knowledge and extensive hands-on experiences in molecular and cell biology, immunology, and cell culture principles.* Expert knowledge in instrumentation and assays associated with cell characterization such as cell-based assays and immunoassays.* Experience developing assays for and transferring into the Quality Control setting of GMP manufacturing.* Demonstrated skills in designing, executing and interpreting experiments.* Demonstrated skills and experience in Design of Experiments and statistical analysis.* Experience with cell-based bioassays preferred.* Experience developing cell therapies preferred.More about Atara BioWe launched Atara Biotherapeutics in August 2012 to help patients with serious diseases and few therapeutic options.
