We are supported in this mission by experienced and accomplished scientists and board members, leading healthcare investors and some of the most innovative pharma companies.We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join as a Research Associate in the Antibody Discovery and Protein Engineering team at our South San Francisco campus. The successful candidate will work closely with scientists across research and manufacturing teams to discover and characterize therapeutic antibody candidates for Alector's neurodegeneration and oncology programs. You will apply your existing technical skills, learn new skills, and play a key role in helping to build in-house antibody discovery capabilities. As an early hire, you'll be influential in championing and developing Alector's culture of thinking independently and working collaboratively.Your key responsibilities will be:* Discovering potentially therapeutic antibodies using in vivo-based approaches (hybridoma and/or B-cell technology platforms)* Evaluate serum titers, perform electrofusions and clonal isolation* Screen and characterize antibodies for binding and functional activity using ELISA, FACS, SDS-PAGE, biochemical and cell-based assays, and biomolecular interaction technologies such as SPR or BLI* Maintain, expand, cryopreserve, thaw and clone hybridoma and other mammalian cell lines* Perform small scale antibody expression and purification of antibodies* Communicate and collaborate with project teamsWe'd love to hear from you if:* Your academic background includes a Bachelor's or Master's Degree (with 2+ years of relevant experience) in immunology, neuroscience, biology or a related scientific field (required)* Experience with mammalian cell culture (hybridoma cell culture strongly desired), screening and characterization of antibodies* Experience with molecular biology techniques, hybridoma sequencing, B-cell cloning, antibody expression and purification, and high-throughput laboratory automation is highly desirable* You take pride in being a self-motivated person, strong team player, excellent written and verbal communicator, fast learner, and creative problem solverAt Alector, we believe that high-performing teams include people from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences who can challenge each other's assumptions with fresh perspectives and bring creative ideas to the table.
